- Calculators: what you type travels in the page address to work out the result and is not stored by the site. The web server's ordinary access log records page addresses for a short time, like any website. The banner ad service described under Advertising never receives a page's address, so your numbers stay on this site.
- Boat Card: stores a scrambled form (salted hash) of its private key, not the key itself; your boats' names and numbers; and your fill-ups (date, engine hours, gallons, price). Nothing that identifies you is asked for. Deleting the card deletes all of it from the live database.
- Cookies:
__Host-wm_cardholds your card's key so this browser stays in your card;__Host-wm_csrfprotects forms from forgery. No tracking, analytics or advertising cookies. - Rate limits: a salted hash of your network address is kept for 2 days to count new cards.
- Backups: the database is copied nightly (kept 14 days) and at each software update (kept 30 days on the server; WeldonPC.com keeps deploy copies offsite), so deleted data can remain in a backup until it ages out.
- Payments: when they open, PayPal handles them; Weldon Marine will see only a subscription reference and its status, never card details.
- No email is sent, no data is sold or shared, no analytics service is used, and no AI is used. The only outside service any page loads is the banner ad from adengine.us described below; it also counts one page view per page as a daily total.
Advertising
The home page, pricing, about and the four calculators show one banner ad from AdEngine (adengine.us), the small ad network run by WeldonPC, the company behind this site. For now the ads are for WeldonPC's own services. Boat Card pages, the Helm Card, the calculators while your Boat Card is open in this browser, this page and the terms show no ad.
To show an ad, your browser loads a script from adengine.us, asks it for one banner, loads the banner image, and reports once that the page was viewed and once that the banner was shown. Like any website, adengine.us receives your network address, your browser type and the address of this site with those requests.
- No cookies, no profile. AdEngine sets no cookies, gives you no ID and does not track you from site to site.
- How your network address is used. adengine.us looks up the approximate city for your address in a location database kept on its own server (nothing is sent to anyone else), so that ads meant for one area are shown only there. It also uses the address to count each ad view or click only once and to leave out robots and WeldonPC's own office traffic. The address is not stored with the counts; the temporary entries made from it expire within six hours and are cleared from the server within two days.
- What is kept. Daily totals only: page views for this site, and views and clicks for each ad. The adengine.us web server also keeps a standard access log (network address, time, address requested, referring site, browser) for security; it is deleted on a rolling schedule.
- Clicking an ad passes through adengine.us, which counts the click, and then opens the advertiser's site, which has its own privacy policy.
- Nothing about you is sold or shared.
